Lesson 3: A Wall of Denial

A discussion on the differences in denial for those who had a surgical abortion performed in a clinic versus the woman who took abortion medication at home is included. While the trauma may be different, the stages of healing after abortion are the same.

Every woman’s denial is different. It has different players and impacts different aspects. We cannot force individuals out of denial. God does that work.

The discussion then goes on to the difference between shame and guilt. It’s important that it is not in God’s character to add continuous shame as life goes on. Encourage them to begin to re-evaluate their mindsets when shame hits them by asking, “Is God saying that to me or is it the enemy?”

Lesson 6: A River of Tears: Grieving Your Loss & Shattering Sexual Soul Ties

The team discusses overall grieving issues. Many are afraid to begin to cry and may not realize they have been mourning this lost child all along the path since their abortion. Triggers of grief may follow them for the rest of their lives. But it will be a “softer” grief if the majority of mourning is accomplished.

The discussion then turns to the topic of Shattering Sexual Soul Ties and the benefits of doing this work as part of the healing sessions.

Sydna recommends watching the workshop “Shattering Sexual Soul Ties” which is part of this course.

Lesson 7: Joy Comes in the Mourning & Memorial Services

This video starts out with the following Scripture passage – Isaiah 43:18-19:

Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.

The team discusses naming and memorializing aborted children as part of the healing process. The honoring service will be in place of class the following week. This video provides various ways you can honor children outside of a regular memorial-type service. Confidentiality requires that the group must provide their full permission to invite outsiders to these services.

The team then discusses naming these lost children, giving an identity to these lost children. Sydna and Melissa share their stories of how God gave them a name for their child. Also included is direction that they can write a letter to God to give to their child in heaven as well as the activity of writing a letter to them from God.
